First, her name is Dana Claire Simpson now, not David.
Secondly, berating someone for not going to Yale or Harvard is somewhat weak. It's ridiculously expensive, especially for the middle class. Poor students get a free ride, richer families can afford the costs.
Then we have the jet itself. DC wears glasses, so totally ineligible point even if she had wanted to and not to mention that whole Don't Ask Don't Tell deal. I personally believe such points you are trying to make are when the person in question HAS that option and chooses not to or runs away, if DC was a draft dodger for instance, then I'd say it has merit.
This deals with your previous post too a little, I didn't want to start multiple threads and flood your inbox etc.
*shrug* DC Simpson (he or she) has always dealt in sophmoric humor, and does well in that arena, so I don't particularly mind when he/she pulls yet another unoriginal piece out of his/her pocket.
If I find anything offensive, it's DC's apparent failure to recognize that, yes, the terrorists ARE evil and our side IS the "good guys". We don't have to be saints and they don't have to be devils for that to be true, despite DC's obvious issue with the basic simplicity of the matter. DC's attempts to belittle Bush and manages to show of his/her own benightedness in the process.
BTW, there's two reasons I stopped bothering with commenting on DC's "I Drew This" --- shooting fish in a barrel gets boring, and so is talking to a brick wall. RH has NOTHING on DC in that regard.
I won't bother addressing your other points, as you obviously damned well know that the point was neither about "wealth" (ever heard of a scholarship) or eyesight.
Morons don't graduate from two ivy league schools, nor do they fly fighter jets--- and for that matter, Neither do cowards.
David Craig Simpson can call himself whatever he chooses. Going under the knife doens't make him any different of a person. In the end, the comic artist who shoots his mouth off and saturates his personal commentary comic with Air America will always be the DC Simpson we've known for a long time.
Moreover, RH isn't berating him for not attending certain schools. He's pointing out the immense irony of someone with a lesser educational background insulting the intelligence of someone with a more significant one. Regardless of how Bush got in, all the name recognition in the world doesn't make passing grades magically appear on your transcript. The most significant part of Bush's attendence is that he GRADUATED.
Again, the jet is noting an irony: a person who did not serve in any capacity denigrating someone who did. Granted, this is a common irony but it doens't get less ironic.
George Magazine reported in October of 2000: "It's time to set the record straight.... Bush may have received favorable treatment to get into the Guard, served irregularly after the spring of 1972 and got an expedited discharge, but he did accumulate the days of service required of him for his ultimate honorable discharge."
You know, ripping on someone elses' political cartoon this way is probably the least dignified way to make a counter argument. By including the artist in the counter-attack, you lose credibility. Counter idea with idea, and resist the temptation to make a personal attack.
I don't agree with Simpson on practically anything political or socially for that matter, but I've had intelligent and respectful conversations with DC on several occasions here on LJ.
It's ironic then that though you and I may share more of the same positions on several issues, I've had more respectful discussions with Simpson. And when we both go our separate ways, we still believe what we believe and we still have our dignity.
If you want to go toe to toe with Simpson, I suggest you create your own political cartoon. You certainly seem to enjoy digging into political issues, but I'd just suggest keeping it above board. This kind of stuff comes across as sour grapes and is unprofessional.
I stopped reading the comic Mr. Simpson is most famous for awhile back. I only wish I didn't have to run across the other one so often in the posting of others.
Probably because he's afraid to admit what would motivate him to join the military is the same thing that motivates everyone else in our generation to join the military: Money. Downturn in the economy has pushed the Unemployed & Discouraged Rate (Unemployed & Discouraged also includes the people who have been unemployed so long that unemployment insurance has run out for them) as high as 30% in Oregon at times during this administration. Thanks to this, the military is often the only way to make a legal buck when your back is against the wall and it's find any money for bills and food or go homeless and hungry.
I've lost two friends killed in action in Iraq now, and if I things don't start looking better in the next couple weeks, there's a chance I might join them. I'm trying to avoid military service until we're not fighting lost causes: My mother doesn't need to be the first on her block to have her boy come home in a box.
By the same reasoning, the only people who can have opinions about the way our government should work are politicians. The only people who can sue anybody are lawyers.
Would you like to have your house saved if it's on fire? (I would think so.) Are you a member of your local fire department? If not, I guess you're a chickenfirefighter, then. Or are you relying on bucket brigades entirely?
Do you want the police to arrest criminals and fight crime? Are you a member of the police force?
If he's not allowed to support the war without having served, I guess that means you're not allowed to speak out against the war since you've never served.
Ozy and Millie was one of two of the first webcomics I ever discovered. although I admit it did little to further introduce me to other webcomics later and I further admit that the humor value has either diminished or I have just found funnier things along the way, but the real turn off was when I discovered the whole "I wrote this" thing he(she? where did that come from?). I still go back there though to Ozy and Millie, though it's more like gold prospecting these days, just looking for a little glimmer of humor amongst useless stones
I found Ozzy and Millie to be entertaining for about the first year, then it jumped the shark when he really started in with the moonbattery. Now I find the strip to be utterly insipid, kind of like Garfield. And like Garfield, I haven't read it in years. Bleh.
Ozy and Millie goes into politics only very rarely... it's like Calvin and Hobbes more than anything else, but with more continuity. If you don't like it, that's one thing, but how can you mind it for its once-a-month-moonbattery?
A couple of things.

Do you know anywhere I could find support for Mr/Ms Simpson being transgendered?

Unless said gender-corkscrewed circus freak is mocking a graduate of both those Ivy League colleges for being "dumb."
I tire of seeing people with the moral clarity of a monkey on crack and the IQ to match mocking the intelligence of the leader of the free world.

"Let's you and him fight."
Why didn't YOU ever enlist, Ralph?

I don't know about the rest of the people who read RHJunior's blog, but I just find you annoying.
It's not a political cartoon...
